Wrapping up the winter term - from the social editor

First things first I’m the realist...

So we are already coming up to the end of our first term, and Christmas is right around the corner! How quickly has time flown? Nevertheless these first few ‘fresh’ months have been nothing but exciting, crazy and (of course) full of hard work. We can definitely say that the socials this term have not failed to disappoint! Here are my highlights:

Dentsoc Boat Party

[endif]--Even though I have officially only been to two, I can say it is one of the best socials of the year. Getting as many dental students on a boat, mixed with alcohol, heels and a lot of dancing could never cut short of an eventful night. I also want to say a huge shoutout to BDS2, because we are genuinely the best dancers that the Dental Institute has ever seen. The dancefloor was empirically flooded with us! The BDS2 GPEPs did not fail to disappoint either with their slick dance moves, it has to be down to fate that they entered the course this year to be united with us! The stories of the student’s journeys home from the infamous boat are never suprising! But we all share that one common detour on the way home to make sure we pay a visit to our favourite London Bridge Kebab Place (the one under the bridge, but also our bae Café Rossi).

[endif]--BDSA Leeds Sport Day

This action-packed weekend was again an unforgettable experience. (Although the journeys there and back on a coach for 5 hours was not). Yet it was all worth the pain to not pay for an expensive train ticket and splashing out on Leeds’ finest cheap wine for pres (so classy!). The first night (T-shirt night) was sweaty, and I mean sweaty. It was literally dripping from the ceilings... (what happened to infection control in clubs?!) But the ‘warehouse’ club was extravagant, and a great night out. The only thing I would hold a grudge against is the fact that the R&B room was literally a box room (NOTE: not ‘The Box’ at Ministry) it was so tiny compared to the main dance floor; but it was still an incredible night!

Figure 2) Netball SQUAD

[endif]--The actual reason why we come to sports day is for the sports, right? Wrong, it's mainly for ‘meeting’ new people in an upfront way. But the actual sports day was filled with fun, laughter and bundles of team spirit. The KCL Netball team were unshockingly the loudest on the court, which even made the strongest teams quiver in fear! (‘OOH AH KCL SAY OOH AH KCL’ –if you know you know.)

[endif]--[endif]--Fancy dress night has got to be hands down one the most memorable nights ever. I know most of us didn’t bother going all out on costumes (I mean I just stuck on a third googley eye and called myself an alien) but we all got one thing right. And that was partying hard and enjoying our last night in Leeds to the max! All in all BDSA sports day was unbelievable and I would totally recommend it to anyone who hasn’t been or just wants to meet loads of random people to play sport! You can check out our Youtube video about Leeds Sports day to get an idea of what it was like!

Pulp Crawl

[endif]--Another example of an annual Dentsoc event that did not fail to live up to the banter promised. Having the word SALUD instead of MOLAR already won it for me this year considering that I dressed up as a mushroom last year, and not the cute kind! But this social definitely brings the students together and allows us to meet people on the course who we have never spoken to before. I think that we should all say thank you to the people who carried alcohol filled accessories with their costumes because it kept us going throughout the night! This again was a momentous occasion.

Diwali Show

This year was my first time being in an act (shout out to Bhangra!) and even though it was an intense workout, the fun we had in rehearsals and meeting new people has made it all worth it! The weeks running up to the the show were mad with rehearsals basically every day and a constant fear that we wouldn't pull it off - but we did! It all came together on the night and looked incredible. For anyone who didn’t take part in an act this year, you should totally try out next year. It is a lot of fun and an unforgettable experience!

So to wrap up:

The socials this term have been an excellent way for all of us to balance out the ‘work hard play harder motto’ but it has to confirmed yet again that dentists know how to party, and that our late nights aren't always spent in the library with only Pickard’s for company! I want to wish everyone the best of luck and success for this year, but more importantly I need more people to take part in our videos for the King’s Crown youtube channel!! I joke (but it is genuinely a documentary on BDS2’s at the moment!)

Happy holidays everyone!
